Go BYU!
GO AUSTIN !

Finally an update!!! e

Hi  Everyone!

A great day last Wednesday!

Julie was able to change rooms to be by a window!  A much more open bright room!! Lots of light and a better outlook for the next few weeks!!

The next great thing about her day was she had a procedure where her speech therapist placed a camera down her nasal passage so that they were able to watch her swallow Ughhh. But of course Julie did great !  During this test they dyed water blue ice chips blue, pudding blue, and a cookie blue!  They saw, as she swallowed, where there were some problems to work where she was weak but they also were able to see with another appt with her swallow therapist that she would be able to start eating some of those foods.  Hallelujah !'

She also started some strength training workouts.  Strengthening her arms shoulders and specifically her right arm and hand .  I thought she did great and did all that they ask.

Julie's toe surgery is healing well also. She puts some weight on it as she gets to shower now with assist and is taking steps.

Julie works very hard through her day with several therapy workouts and up and down from her bed, all things good that make her tired off and on during the day and obviously tired at night which is good as she gets to sleep easier these days!

She remains on her tube feeding even though she is starting to eat some other foods slowly.  She will keep the tube feelings to make sure she gets enough nutrients!

Her friend Jenny had to go home early due to her diagnosis of unexpected Bell's palsy .  She plans on keeping up with this blog as its good for Julie to get to read comments and motivates her!

Keep visiting as your schedules permit.  Please if you visit, take pictures with Julie on her phone so we can have pictures to add to her scrapbook later!!!

Julie is soooo very blessed with all her friends that she has for support!!! Thank you thank you!!

Day before Rehab begins!

Happy Sunday to all!!

Julie had another great day with progress made again with physical therapy !!  She was able to stand and pivot into a chair this morning!! She sat in it and did exercises with therapist for 30 minutes.  Then rested again!

In the afternoon therapy came again and and Julie got to stand and pivot again to the chair!  Much easier transfer this time the therapist said!!!  While in the chair jenny washed her hair and did manicures!!! Julie was able to stay in chair for 1 1/2 hours!

She was also able to have the sacrament brought to us today which is always a great thing.  They left with message to us from Pres monson oct 2013.  "Only the Master knows the depths of our trials, our pain, and our suffering.  He alone offers us eternal peace in times of adversity.......whether it is the best of times or the worst of times, He is with us.  He has promised this will never change"   A perfect thought!!

After they left, I teased Julie that she snitched more of the water from the sacrament than she was supposed to and the picture below was her little smile!!

She enjoyed the visits from friends off and in thru the day.  A highlight was visiting a friend whose son left a picture that he wanted her to have!!!! Thank you Kimball !!!

Another good day marked on the calendar!!!

Good nite and as always we love you all ❤️

Pictures to come .....sorry

Our first post

Hello Everyone !

We all thought that this blog may be a great way to keep everyone updated and a chance for Julie to write on the blog or to just read the blog and the comments and support from everyone as she continues to heal!!  So we encourage comments to Julie and support to keep her motivated!!! We will try to update the blog on a daily basis, giving everyone the "news of the day" !

So here we go......I'm sure by now everyone knows the heartbreaking news that on Tuesday September 19 Julie was diagnosed with a stroke with right sided weakness!  She had some slurring speech and weakness at work and didn't feel good so she was taken to the hospital by a friend and here begins the new adventures of Auntie Jewel!!

She has had many treatments and tests throughout the week so far to assist in making the best decisions for her care!!! During this time she had to have surgery to have a toe amputated to get rid of an infection!  Like the trooper that Julie is she has come through with flying colors AGAIN!!!  With so many prayers from so many people she has been blessed!!!

We are excited today for the heart scan that came back normal and without infection!!  Her physical therapy and speech therapies are going well!  She has had a great rest today and woke around 6 and enjoyed watching the women's conference off and on with Todd her brother!! Julie's eyes were open and responding well and is doing well trying to enunciate her words!!! She does her exercises that therapy gives her!! She still has a feeding tube in until her swallowing is better!! Her main goal first is to have a Coke, so she is working hard  😁!!

The plan is for her to be discharged from the hospital on Monday and be readmitted to Utah Valley In-patient Rehab on the 3rd floor.  She will be there for 2-3 weeks to start!  There, she will have intensive physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy through the day everyday!!! She may run circles around all of us after this rehab !!!  🏋

Short visits are encouraged!!! We will of course update with the room number as soon as we know!!

Julie wants everyone to know she loves you all and is so thankful to each and every friend and family member for the outpouring of support and love ❤️

Stay tuned !!!! More fun and interesting stories to come!!
